Daily Bookbag: 5 February 2015

Time to settle in with some books and read for the evening. I finished Socrates Cafe last night, and turned it in today along with Gil Adamson’s The Outlander and Julia Alvarez’s How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents. Then, as if I didn’t have plenty to read already, I checked out 4 more books and picked up another Clive Cussler book off the free shelf near the library entrance. And then, when my sister came over to sort out all the books we picked out for my brother, for his birthday, I added a couple more books to my shelf, the ones she bought for me when we were at the thrift store hunting books for our brother. She also bought a decent stack of books for herself, despite her supposed book buying ban (because her bed is already surrounded by tall, threatening towers of books she needs to read).

I was hoping to read with Doctor Who on in the background, but Netfliz is awful tonight, playing the video in fits and starts, consistently behind the audio, no matter what I try. I read something about that they were going to a different default player, and I hope this is not the result of that change, because if their videos are always going to play this poorly, I’m far better off with just youtube and music. (grumble grumble grumble … .)

Actually my total ‘book flow’ rate has not been too terrible today, because I did pass on 3 books to my brother that I read this month- 2 Clive Cusslers (Raise the Titanic! and The Chase), and that nonfiction book I wrote about recently, Considering Hate. I also left the poetry-esque book on letters (won through Goodreads, not bad but not my thing) on the free shelf at the library. So I sent out 7 books, total, and added 7 books to my apartment’s total collection, 4 of those library books, 3 ‘permanent’. Of course, I also brought home 3 of the books I got at the thrift store last night, so I still added books, but with just a gain of 3 books in the past 48hrs.

Do you rationalize book acquisitions like this?

Well, back to the books. I’m putting on a bunch of Fort Collins music tonight, since Netfliz has failed me. If you are following me on spotify, you’ll be able to see what I am listening to through their social listening feature.
