Sept Reading Challenge Update

It is the 16th of September now, and alas, I have only finished 11 books so far this month. My goal was/is a book a day, so I’m 5 books behind. But, I am in the middle of 5 books now, so there’s hope.

The book I am reading right now is called Dancing on the Head of a Pen, by Robert Benson. Some of the reviews I’ve read of it seem incensed that this book is not a how-to guide to writing a novel, but in fact it is not, and doesn’t pretend to be. I might as well be angry that a book about Ireland doesn’t teach me to speak Irish Gaelic. What this book is, however, is a sort of conversation with a writer about writing and some of what works for him. It is not meant to instruct, just inspire. So far it’s quite good.

The other books I’m reading?

Quartet for the End of Time, by Johanna Skibsrud

The 100, by Kass Morgan

Mr. Mercedes, by Stephen King

The House of Velvet and Glass, by Katherine Howe

Have you read any of these yet? Are you planning to?
