Ravenblog: Reading Update 9/8

So much for reading a book a day! Well, I’m averaging a book every 2 days right now, which is not terrible, just not enough to get me very close to my goal of finishing 200 books in 2014. Oh well.

The 5 books I’ve finished this month, so far, are –

America on Wheels: The First 100 Years, by Frank Coffey and Joseph Layden (6 stars, great writing, some good pictures, awful layout- automobile history, social history) –

Valhalla Rising, by Clive Cussler (7.3 stars, fun book but not as strong as Cussler’s better books- vikings, Jules Verne, submarines) –

Knitting Under the Influence, by Claire LaZebnik (5 stars, cardboard characters, underdeveloped story, but does a decent portrayal of moderately severe autism) –

Bumping into Geniuses: My Life Inside the Rock and Roll Business, by Danny Goldberg (7.8 stars, great writing and some very interesting stories about working within the music industry with rock stars) –

The Faithful, by S.M. Freedman (7 stars, good sci-fi/fantasy but I wish it wasn’t another damsel in distress/knight in shining armor book)

and I am currently reading 3 books – Quartet for the End of Time, by Johanna Skibsrud (literary fiction) – Building an Opportunity Society, by Lewis D. Solomon (economics theory sociopolitical theory) – Media in Terror, by Muhammad Adeel Javaid (political theory, media studies, not published yet & not on goodreads)

I feel like I’m back in grad school reading so much academic theory, but it’s so much more fun when it isn’t for a grade. And, I have lots more fiction to start in on, and another music industry memoir. I haven’t decided what I am starting next, but I’ll have another book on my stack by tonight. Yay books! 🙂
