I joined a readathon a couple days ago, a totally random thing I have lived a long time without trying. But I read a lot, so why not?
What is a readathon, or read-a-thon? It is where a bunch of people commit to reading more, setting particular goals or adopting a group goal, or something like that. I guess the old Book-It program we had in school was a readathon, technically, and the library reading programs we did as kids, in both of which we tracked our reading somehow, publically, and had the company and support from other readers as we worked towards our #reading goals. A #readathon is easy to do online, especially on a site like tumblr where posts can be brief and can take on all sorts of forms, with tags that can group all the posts related to the readathon together. In fact the reason i joined the one I am doing now is cause I came across it while I was dalying and waiting for Bubblews to come back online two days ago, and it was something mentioned in someone’s post on tumblr. I followed the links I found through the readathon tag, and eventually found and joined the event. My goal is to finish a book a day for the rest of July.
Have you done readathons before? Whether you have or not, what are some of your reading goals for this month and this year?
