30 Days of Favorites (Colorado) Day 4: Patti Fiasco

For Day 4 of this series I chose one of my favorite Colorado country rock/alt country bands, Patti Fiasco. First, there is no “Patti” in this band. Patti Fiasco is

Alysia Kraft-Vocals,

Guitar Dee Tyler-Vocals, Guitar

Scott Clabby- Drums

Niles Mischke- Bass

Ansel Foxley-Dobro

Most of these 5 musicians are also in other bands or play solo as well, so these folks are pretty busy and get lots of practice at their craft. Alysia has a new Americana/folk duo with Staci Foster, called Whippoorwill, which is already among my favorites after being around just a few months (they were a favorite of mine well before they chose the name Whippoorwill, actually). Patti Fiasco has been around for several years, and they currently have 2 full-length albums available. They perform a lot in Denver and at their favorite Wyoming venues, and of course they also play quite a few shows in Fort Collins, where I encountered them. Currently Patti Fiasco is located mostly in Denver, but since Staci Foster is from Texas, Whippoorwill has played a lot in Texas already, even putting in an appearance during SXSW in Austin this year. Patti Fiasco also participated in SXSW this year as part of the SpokesBUZZ contingent, and they will be touring with Screen Door Porch and J. Shogren Shanghai’d (J. Shogren and friends, essentially) through late May and June 2014.

I first encountered Patti Fiasco at Road 34, in Fort Collins. It was a cold night and I had a headache, so I very nearly didn’t go out at all, but I only lived down the alley from Road 34 then, so I figured I ought to at least stop in and take a few photos for my blog. Well, that initial plan, maybe spending 30 minutes taking photos before going back home to nurse my headache, turned into staying over 4 hours, so that I was still there chatting with the bands till almost 3am. Miraculously my headache went away despite, or maybe because of the loud live music I spent those hours immersed in. I do find that really good live music is a cure for all sorts of bad moods and headaches, and Patti Fiasco has such great energy and addictively good songs that they are a great band to see if one is at all grumpy, depressed, lethargic or otherwise under the weather.
