A Book A Day #6 – Holidays in Hell, by O’Rourke

Holidays in Hell, by P.J. O’Rourke

Today’s book is inspired by all the interesting tales that have come out of the Sochi Olympics this season, all the poor accommodations, sketchy environmental and social policies, and underhanded political dealings. Holidays in Hell is a collection of stories of O’Rourke’s more exciting, colorful and dangerous experiences while working as a foreign correspondent in war zones and other situations of global media interest. I often wonder how I might have handled this sort of journalism career, but reading some of these tales, I am glad I didn’t stray too far down that road. Some people really are crazier than I am, by far.
