I’m bringing back a post series I gave up on earlier (for lack of interest, though after it was gone I’ve heard from plenty of folks that they liked these). I follow literally hundreds of bands and am facebook friends with hundreds of musicians and when I look at my facebook feed it tells me all sorts of great news about music stuff and other events. So, starting today I am thinking I’ll post a daily (or as close to daily as possible) “news & notes” update with a few of the highlights from what turned up on my facebook feed recently.
Britton Deuel posted a link to a new video for one of his songs, “Sky Between the Pines”, the title track on his recently released studio album.
The Black Mountain Ramble this month features four excellent singer-songwriters. Brooke Reiss and Levi Bronson perform frequently at the Avo’s Open Mic, and are both excellent emerging musicians on the local scene. Brian Kittrel is also known (besides as a great solo performer) as the excellent electric guitar player from the bluegrassy band Rich With Friends. Wolf van Elfmand is a regular at the Black Mountain Rambles and also plays guitar and sings with the fantastic folk rock band Von Stomper. The show is at the Wild Boar Coffee shop just north of the big flower garden on College, south of Prospect. The Line-up:
The Dead Jam at Avogadro’s Number will be themed this week. Come by Avo’s tomorrow night for a bit of the circus, as the Dead Jam morphs into Cirque Jam. There will still be plenty of the usual Grateful Dead covers and lots of stage time for jammers, but there will also be some special extras tomorrow night. The Dead Jam has moved from Mondays to Thursdays so as to not conflict with the popular Hodi’s Funk Jam that happens every Monday night. From now on the Dead Jam will occur every other week on Thursday nights at Avogadro’s Number, and as always the Dead Jam (and the Hodi’s Funk Jam) is free.
Patti Fiasco will be playing a free show at Hodi’s Half Note tomorrow, December 5th, and they will be recording at that show for an upcoming video. The Hodi’s show starts at 9pm, and doors open at 8pm. Patti Fiasco will be playing another recorded show in Laramie, Wyoming on Saturday, December 7th at the Gryphon Theatre.
Music at Road 34: On Friday night we are proud to have Equally Challenged in the house to play some music and release their new album unto the world. They will be joined by our old friends Matt Mahern and Constitution. On Saturday we are proud to present Better than Bacon along with Sam Holt Music. Both shows are $5, 21+, and start at 9 pm.
Cary Morin will be playing at Equinox Brewing Co. on Saturday, December 7th, from 6-8pm. This will be a free show. Cary is an award-winning finger-picking style blues guitarist, and was a community favorite over the summer during the Streetmosphere weekend performance series.
Wasteland Hop will be playing a show at Avogadro’s Number on December 12th, along with the Seers, starting at 8pm.
Also from Wasteland Hop- “We release our new single Cold World on December 15th! Heartfelt thanks to SpokesBUZZ for bringing us into The Blasting Room for a very special recording session.Thank you to Susanna Dominguez and TayloredARTS for this collaborative image. You ALL mean the (cold) world to us.”
