Varlet – American Hymns (Album of the Day)

Varlet – American Hymns  ♥♥♥♥♥ (5 hearts out of 5)

Denver’s answer to He’s My Brother She’s My Sister, Varlet has a great eclectic pop sound, edgy, moody and drawing on a wide range of earlier music styles. Lilly Scott’s voice is luscious, and the rest of the band does a great job of supporting and enhancing her already cool vocals. I particularly like how well Lilly’s voice works with that of the band’s drummer, Will Duncan, who supplies the male lead vocals.

Varlet played at Fortoberfest this year, I think as their first appearance in Fort Collins, and they don’t have another show scheduled here yet, but I hope they enjoyed themselves here enough to come back soon. In the meantime, many of the great songs they played at Fortoberfest are on their new album American Hymns, which is available to stream and purchase on bandcamp now.
