Weekly 20 Songs Playlist: August 17

This week’s playlist features quite a few songs from artists who stood out this past weekend at the New West Fest music festival in Fort Collins, Colorado. There was far too much great music in those 3 days to fit all of it in a single 20 song playlist, so there will be plenty more where these came from over the next few weeks. Interspersed with these new music discoveries are a few old favorites from various eras in my music-fan history. The Genesis and Judds tunes are ones I used to sing and dance along with as a kid- I loved it every time MTV played the video to this Genesis song, too (which is worth looking up on youtube if you’ve never seen it). Since my favorite songs from Neil Byrne and Ryan Kelly’s Acoustic by Candlelight tour are not yet on any sort of album from them, I’ve resorted to the original for my absolute favorite from their tour, their cover of Hothouse Flowers’ “Don’t Go”. This song is cool enough in its original form that it would have made in on here anyway, but I really hope Neil and Ryan do a tour album so I can add their cover to these lists eventually.

I’ve added in links for all the albums on this list this time, which takes quite a bit more work, hunting down good sources for purchasing each album and adding each url to the code for the post, but if it makes these lists significantly more useful, I’ll do links from now on, and maybe even put them in for the old lists when I find time. There are often multiple sites, of course, to choose from, and while I find amazon.com very convenient, I also really like the idea of supporting sites that really support independent music. The local music scene would be far less exciting if we only had the Big 3 music companies left to produce and distribute all our music. So, there’s a little variety in the links I chose for this list. There may be cheaper deals elsewhere, and pretty much all of these artists sell their CDs at their live shows, too. Happy Listening!
